Tough times are upon us. Everyone I talk to is freaked out and upset about what they can’t do anymore. I can’t go out to eat, or meet with my friends. I can’t play baseball or go watch baseball. I can’t get my hair cut, or my nails done and forget about a massage. I can’t travel, I can’t go shopping. I can’t go to school or work. I can’t I can’t I can’t. Yes, tough times are here. These times make me think of Robert Schuller’s book,

“Tough times don’t last, Tough people do”.

Tough times are what my 13 week program is all about. 13 weeks raises awareness for what you can do. I appreciate everyone letting me know what they can’t do, now let’s talk about what you can do. First of all anybody can do anything for 90 days. And if that 90 days means quarantine, so be it. Think about what goals you can accomplish in the next 90 days not being able to go anywhere. All you need to do is to be creative. Is your gym closed? Run outside. (Fresh air is good, and just keep the 6 foot rule in play). You can’t go out to eat? Set a goal to try new meals while you are stuck inside. This is an ideal opportunity to bring eating back into the home, surrounded by those you care about and you will actually spend less money. Are the stores  out of milk and eggs and meat, now would be a good time to try a plant based diet. Remember, any one can to anything for 90 days. You can’t travel? Great! Why not explore the wonders of where you live. So what if you can’t go inside, enjoy things from afar. You see? There is a can  for every can’t you give me. The world is not what you see, it is how you see it. Choose to see what you can do with your life over the next 13 weeks. And if we have to quarantine longer? Let’s worry about that when we get to it. We can always start another 13 week goal.

5 RULES

Let’s create some ground rules. First, don’t get  overwhelmed. Focus on what you can do for yourself today.  What a 13 week goal means is that there is an end in sight, but it doesn’t mean for you to think of how difficult it will be to get through 13 weeks. You just need to enjoy today. 2nd rule, limit your news time. Check in on the world, but then get away from the news or you will spiral. Realize what you have power over and what you don’t. You have power over what you allow into your mind. Fear or Solutions, the choice is yours, I can’t or I can? What provides our brain with dopamine? I can! 4th rule, check it off. And if you have kids, check off the daily successes with them so that they can become empowered as well. And the 5th rule. Take time for yourself, even if it is just a few moments. Take time and feel your feelings. You will have good days and bad days, but make sure you are in touch with what you are feeling, And what ever you feel is ok.

I understand that for some the tough times mean losing your job, or your business. It is unfair and yes you have a right to feel sorry for yourself, for a moment or two. But then you need to start looking for solutions. Pity will be easy to find, solutions are hidden in plain sight. They are there but you need to be creative, you need to believe that there is a better outcome available to you. And I know there is. I remember how challenging the late 2000’s were. I know people that went bust, only to earn more in the last few years than they were earning before, what to them was the end of the world. And again, this will be tough, but your are tough. I know that rainbow will be smiling down on us, sooner than we think. Tough time don’t last.  I know you will!
